Symptomatology and Therapy of Toxicological Emergencies

چکیده
There is an interesting introduction by M. A. B. Brazier on the work of Caton and Beck who independently discovered steady potentials in the brain. The excerpts selected and translated from Beck's thesis make informative reading. The reports of recent work deal with correlations between steady potentials and chemical environment (McIlwain, Leao, Grafstein), steady potentials and behavior (Morrell, Rowland, Caspers), steady potentials and seizure activity (Goldring, Bates). Slow impedances changes in relation to behavior are also included (Adey). The discussions in accord with the prevailing custom are often short presentations of the discussant's recent experiments. The interruptions to the various presentations are often points well taken, and are not marred by the wool gathering to which this form of symposium is particularly susceptible. In fine, this symposium is a useful collection of recent research in the area of steady potentials in the brain, an area which is not well represented by recent reviews or by similar symposia.

Knowledge and Confidence of Emergency Clinicians in Managing Toxicological Presentations
Background: Acute poisonings are common presentations to emergency departments (EDs) worldwide and require rapid assessment. Consultant emergency physicians (EPs) faced with various toxicological presentations must initiate rapid investigations and empirical management. This study aimed to determine emergency department doctors’ level of knowledge and confidence in toxicological presentations, ...

متن کاملAmitraz Poisoning Treatment: Still Supportive?
Amitraz is a triazapentadiene, an α2 adrenergic agonist and a member of the amidine chemical family. A limited number of human intoxication cases have been published in the literature. Lack of a clear and specific protocol for the therapy of amitraz intoxication may make its successfully managed case reports useful and valuable for other clinical practitioners in poisoning departments. The case...

متن کاملThe Pathology of Borderline Personality Disorder Symptomatology in a Non-clinical Sample: The Role of Mental Pain, Cognitive Emotion Regulation, Self-Compassion, and Depression
Objectives: Those suffering from borderline personality disorder (BPD) often develop a qualitatively certain depression that may be accompanied by “mental pain”. Mental pain is characterized by negative self-concept, aversive chronic emotions, and feeling pervasive helplessness. This research aimed to understand the pathology of BPD symptomatology using a non-clinical sample: the role of mental...
